ABOUT RED CEDAR LAKE

Originally created by damming to permit logging drives, Red Cedar Lake now serves as a man-made reservoir for hydro-electric generating stations. Consequently, lake levels can vary considerably, especially during draw downs (although they are infrequent). Red Cedar Lake supports healthy populations of walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass, perch and a small lake trout population. lightly fished, this stained and diverse lake has deep main-lake basins, submerged rock piles, shallow back bays, weedy areas, fast breaking shorelines, mid-depth flats and flooded timber. Road access is limited; only a few cottages and two fishing camps are located on the lake.
Red Cedar Lake walleye are scattered over the lake's diverse structural features but concentrate on submerged, mid-lake rock piles/spines and shoals. Twistertail jigs tipped with a minnow or worm and live-bait spinner rigs (Lindy rig. GoGetter) back-trolled or drifted over deep (16 to 24 foot) structures are proven approaches for Red Cedar Lake walleye.
The lake's rocky nature and deep water also provide excellent habitat for smallmouth bass, an almost forgotten sportfish here. Red Cedar Lake also offers anglers the opportunity for some great northern pike fishing - both in terms of numbers and size. Along weedlines, around shoals, in Campten Bay and Opechee Creek, we consistently caught northerns on spoons, spinners, spinnerbaits and wobbling plugs (Canadian Wigglers). On breezy days, aggressive pike will position themselves on rocky shoals or on wave-washed points.
Pozniak's Camp offers housekeeping package to its angling and hunting clients. Also available: dock facilities, bait & propane BBQ.
